>>I scrupulously avoided math in college<<

Ok, how'd you manage that one? I tried, but I kept getting stuck with
having to take a math requirement. I took a 100 level math class. I
failed it. More than once. Of course this was just about the same time
that I discovered that I had discalculia, which is like being dyslexic,
but only with numbers. Made loads of sense to me. No wonder I couldn't
(and still can't) repeat a string of three numbers back to someone, in
the order that they were given to me, even if I have it written down.
Sewing is easy. That's just shapes. Just fitting shapes together is like
making a jigsaw puzzle. (remember, I'm the looney in the Elizabethan) And
cooking....well, that's why calculators were invented....and assistants
to double-check your sums. I just wish the teachers would have caught it
back in grade school, when something significant could have been done
about it. Instead, I spent all of grade school and all of high school
hating math and feeling quite stupid, even though I was making good
grades everywhere else. I seriously envy those who find math easy and
fun. And, so, for me there are "everyday math tasks" that I scrupiously
avoid, or have learned to do on instinct. For example: I have had to
learn to use Roman numerals to tell time because those are letters and
not numbers. A regular clock face sometimes doesn't make complete sense
to me. This is also why I bless the day they invented digital watches.
And even those I need to read slowly and carefully. So, for me...math
bad. Pooey.

Oh, there's no way I'm going to be able to make it to Lansing's 12th
Nite. We have our 12th the following week and it's "crunch time". I would
have loved to see Midair try to teach me to use an abacus! I wonder which
one of us would scream first. :-)
