Remember the talking Barbie who said "Math is hard"?

A little anecdote: When I took AP Calculus my senior year in high school,
there was a group of fairly intelligent "popular" girls in my class who were
taking it pass-fail (you could take up to one full class pass-fail per year,
so long as it wasn't a required course per state requirements, and everyone
in Calc had long ago surpassed those). They kept telling everyone how glad
they were for pass-fail, and when my class put a picture in the yearbook,

two captions were chosen: "Pushing ourselves to the limit" (mine) and
"thank God for pass-fail". I can't help but wonder years later whether they
were doing that because it was more socially acceptable, yet at the same
time mentioning it all the time drew folks' attention to the fact that they
were in a hard math class....

Me, I took typing pass-fail.
