I can remember words and their English meanings just fine.
I can recognize things well enough to translate from
Latin to English almost at sight. Ask me to decline
hic/haec/hoc or qui/quae/quod, though, and it's
hopeless. I look at the list, I remember for
five seconds. Twenty minutes later, it's "Huh?"
It's all context. I can figure out what goes where
from the context - but lists of words have no context.
