It's late, and this may not be much help, but as I remember the Ibo were a
fairly large and powerful group, however, period contacts with Nigeria were the
Portugese slavers/ traders in the 1500s ?, and possibly some Arab
slavers/traders coming South overland. Information might be available from the
Nigerian cultural attache at their embassy or local office. Another source
would be the CIA "Country Studies" series, available at many larger libraries.
These have mostly current event information, but also discuss the history of
nations, and groups within them. A research librarian might also help in
finding an ethnological / cultural / historical journal or articles which might
lead to more particular sources.
    However, as a practical matter, some of the brightly colored block printed
African cloth would serve as a "cultural signal". Nigeria is a very hot and
humid nation, and a native of that land coming to Northern Europe would probably
find warmer clothing. Even those central africans who came north to the
Mediterranean seemed to adopt the garb of the area (Berber/ moorish). I hope
