An explanation I've heard (at least for the bumper crop around here) is that
there was a boom in soybean aphids this year. (Aphids are Ladybugs' primary
food source.) When they started taking down the soybean fields, the
ladybugs invaded our homes. The problem is the ladybugs we have around here
are said to be an asian strain that sometimes bites. (I have had quite a
few of them crawling on me, though, and have not been bitten. Maybe the
ones around here aren't the asian ones, or maybe they just like me... :) My
daughter came home from kindergarten and saw a ladybug I was trying to
relocate one and started shouting that I should watch out 'cause it was
orange... Apparently the asian ones come in the orange color.
