Let it be known that on the 27th day of October, the eve of the great Boar
Hunt in the Shire of Far Reaches, there shall occur a Passage of Arms to
take place two hours after the setting of the sun upon a list field
illuminated by great torches.

Item: This tournament shall be hosted by the Tennans de la Flamme,
hereafter to be referred to as The Company. Know that the purpose of this
tournament shall be for the entertainment of the ladies of the gallery and
the noble pursuit of the chivalric virtues, not the base spirit of victory.

Item: All combat will be fought with like weapons, sans shield and a
plaisance. With the exception of six foot spears at the barrier, no
thrusting shall be used.

Item: When fighting at the barrier, warriors are encouraged to approach the
barrier boldly and meet blows with equal vigor; however, there shall be no
shame in stepping back from the barrier to acknowledge a well-landed blow or
to allow one's opponent to recompose himself after receiving a blow well
struck.

Item: The first passage shall be a melee where each combatant, armed with
single sword, shall wander the field seeking out a fellow. They shall
salute one another and, once engaged, the fighters shall trade blows until
one has solidly struck the other. After this, they shall again salute and
then part ways to seek a new opponent. Each fighter shall continue, thus,
until three blows have been received, after which they shall void the field.

Item: After studying the deeds done in this melee the ladies of the company
shall select enough men at arms to fight with the company so that the
tennans and vennans have an even number of men. After this, the ladies of
the gallery will be asked to decide which of the vennans has earned the
first challenge of the evening.

Item: The second passage shall be combat at the barrier, where each of the
vennans introduces himself to the assembled gentles, challenges one of the
tennans to one, three or five counted blows with either the single sword,
long sword, pole arm or spear.

Item: The third passage shall proceed much as the second except that each
of the tennans will, in turn challenge one of the vennans to a number of
counted blows in the open field.

Item: The final passage will be a melee where the vennans and tennans shall
face each other, three at a time, at the barrier.

Writing for the Company,
On St. Crispin's Day,
The Honourable Lord Avery Austringer ODH, OSO, APF
