One thing you might want to take into account is the transfer of medium.
Tolkein was boring in parts, like Hawthorne and Dickins, because he had to
describe in words what you are to envision. The nice thing about films is
that you totally skip over that part because you just see it. (That old saw
about a picture being worth a thousand words, etc.)
