Greetings! Feel free to cross-post to various lists!

Issue 30 of Artes Draconis will be available at my booth (Darkblade
Studios) at ValDay on February 9. I am hoping to print next week.
Since I am the merchant liaison for ValDay as well, I am uncertain I
can mail out the subscriber and contributor copies before February
9, but I will try. I have a lot to accomplish next week, and I held
this issue as long as possible to get final copy. Those who missed
the deadline....missed out and you know who you are. :-)

If any subscribers or contributors are attending ValDay, I will
gladly hand-deliver your copy to you. Just ping me :-) My booth will
be located immediately to the left of the entrance of the merchant
hall. I will also have subscription forms in case anyone would care
to subscribe :-)

This issue is chock-full of very pertinent, timely information, and
is the biggest issue of Artes Draconis published to date. The theme
this time is the A&S Faire system in the Midrealm. I solicited some
excellent articles from some very experienced individuals.

Here's the lineup, to whet your appetite:

"Removing the mystery of the A&S Faire: How to prepare and document
an entry" by Meistara Thorhalla Carlsdottir af Broberg, former
KMOAS

"Entering the Pentathlon or Divisional Championship Competition at
a Regional A&S Faire" by Mistress Melisande of Woodcrest, former
KMOAS

"Documentation 101: A Documentation Primer" by Master Charles
Oakley, former KMOAS

"Preparing Documentation for a Faire" by Maistreas Siban ni
Sheaghdha, former Kingdom Judges' coordinator

"Judging at an Arts and Sciences Faire using the Midrealm A&S
criteria" by the Honorable Lady Fiadnata o' Gleann Alainn, current
deputy MOAS for A&S education and RUM liaison

"What goes on in the tally room, or Where the heck are my scores?"
by the Honorable Baroness Genevieve McCullum de Caen, current deputy
MOAS for A&S faire coordination

I am also hoping to include a couple fillers, I am still working on
the final layout. I have some lovely original artwork from Tarik
Aga, my very first original artwork submissions. (MORE MORE MORE
please!)

As you can see, this issue contains dozens of total years of
experience in various aspects of the Midrealm's A&S faire system.
This issue is presented a full month prior to the first regional A&S
faires of the season, to whet your appetites and help any entrants
prepare for their faires. If you have not entered a faire before,
you may be interested in this issue. If you HAVE entered a faire
before, you may be interested in this issue.

This is the first time that this much comprehensive information and
knowledge has been presented in one package. I would encourage all
local MOAS officers to come take a look at this, you may wish to
purchase a copy to share with your groups (shameless plug!) The
faire system is complex and can be intimidating if you don't know
how to play by the rules. The rules are complicated and very
detailed. Couple this issue with a current set of the Rules and
Criteria, and you should be well on your way to gaining a fuller
understanding of how this important aspect of our Kingdom
functions.

Please note: there have been some changes in the faire rules since
the 1998 edition was produced, these are available online in a more
updated form. Go to the Midrealm page, and follow the links to the
general rules and Criteria. Most significant is the change of the
date for submission of research papers and mail-in entries. It USED
to be one month prior to the first regional faire, but to give more
time for the KMOAS to obtain judges and get things mailed and
returned, this date was shifted in 2002 to January 19.

If you have questions about Artes Draconis, you can address them to
me.

If you have questions about the A&S Faire system, you can address
those to the KMOAS, Master Arundel, at moas@midrealm.org (his is the
final word on policy). I don't set policy or make faire decisions, I
am just presenting information ON the faires.

Yours in service to the arts and our Kingdom,

Mistress Siobhan O'Neill, Editor of Artes Draconis
long time A&S gooberette
