That isn't what I'm saying, and I believe that you know that.

They sure do. The difference (as far as I can tell) is that there's
proceedures for handling it on the list. Again -- as far as I know -- there
ARE no such parallel proceedures for A&S.
<<Sorry the SCA and the A & S Faire isn't perfect. >>
I'm not asking it to be. Please keep in mind that most of my statements in
this thread are in response to what Saradwen advocates -- which may or may
not be what actually happens. Also please keep in mind that this entire
thread started about whether or not A&S is a competition or not -- and this
is basically a subthread that's spawned off of it.
Some pretty Artsy people have posted to this list that they don't like the
way A&S is judged. I don't happen to be one of them -- in the few entries
I've made, I feel that I've been judged fairly. However, others definitely
haven't. I suppose I'm wondering, in a way, why this hasn't been addressed
before. Of course, since I'm not very closely involved in the process, it
may be the case that it HAS been addressed before, just not successfully.
<<Now, instead of taking up bandwidth complaining about it, what positive
suggestions do you have to improve it? I'm not talking flippant statements
and generalities, have the courage to roll up your sleeves and work at
changing it. I always suggested to people during my tenure as KMOAS that if
they didn't like what I was doing to bid in to become my successor. I close

Before actually doing something, you have to decide what to do first. I
strongly believe that I am not the person to make the decision. However, I
can (and will) offer what I hope is advice and productive commentary. I
don't believe I've been flippant, and I'm sure I haven't been general.
I've judged before, and competed before. I think some of the criteria is
off, and I've made suggestions at the time to the appropriate people.
But we've not really been talking about anything other than the "theory" of
judging, and how things can diverge. Heck, in Rapier, we've got a few
hundred marshals who have gone through training and passed TESTS to be
marshals -- and they diverge.
