> Well, we've started the Big Kitchen Project(tm).
Oh, envy, envy!
I HATE my kitchen. I HATE my bathroom. But I rent a tiny apartment in a
house that's close to 100 years old, so.....kinda have to bug the
landlord to see if he might one day consider re-doing them for me.
That is, if he EVER gets around to completing the vinyl siding job he's
been doing for the past 10 years or so. Every few summers, he puts a
little more on, then forgets about it for a while. Meantime, the
basement is FULL of construction equipment, making it nigh unto
impossible to get to my Pennsic gear.
Which now, as a result of severe summer flooding, lives at my mom's
house. In her nice, dry basement (she lives on top of a hill, I live on
the site of a former glacial bog).
My brother re-did my bedroom a few years back, which used to be painted
dark brown with darker brown trim. How utterly depressing. It's now
nice, bright white with a "country blue" of my own design trim. Took
MANY layers of paint to cover the dark brown. The living room also got
redone by my landlord not long ago.
Fortunately, this summer he put in nice new replacement windows, which
will, with luck, bring down my astronomical gas bill this winter. So
far the house has stayed much warmer during the day when I lower the
heat as I leave for work. Yesterday I got home and the apartment was
STILL a toasty 70º, even though I lowered the thermostat to 62º when I
left for work!
The bathroom is a hideous institutional green with dark brown trim. I
have visions of it being white with damask rose trim. The kitchen is
that hideous "harvest yellow" that was so popular in the 70's. I have
visions of a nice soft beige or some other similar colour. The floor is
the original from when it was converted to an apartment in the 40's and
badly needs to be replaced. So does the bathroom floor.
And I want to pitch the falling apart avocado green sofa in the living
room. And put in new curtains throughout the entire apartment. And get
rid of 19 years of clutter that makes me feel hemmed in there.
I have dreams. I've had these dreams for so long now. It's just a
matter of having the time, energy and financial resources to make it
happen. But a new or newer car must come first. The ol' '87 VW is
limping badly. Still gets an impressive 45 mpg highway when it's in
peak tune, but it's had too many problems this past year that have
wreaked financial havoc.
One thing at a time........
