Some years ago, one of the college students in Tor Aerie designed a "Tope
Ten Events in the Middle Ages, (plus Two)" class.

Two of the items were :

* ) The Normans invade and conquer England
* ) John Hus ignites the Protestant Reformation

Many years before that, a gentle in the Barony of Three Rivers (St. Louis)
gave a series of short talks at the baronial meetings, introducing
important technological advances, one century at a time. All I remember

is the 11th Century's big three inventions:

*) The horse collar (freeing a farmer from using oxen)
*) The stirrup (allowing the full force of a horse behind a spear)
*) The astrolabe (opening up water beyond the sight of land)

So, I turn it over to you folks: Name one or two events that ought to be
on the Top Ten Plus Two list, and name an important technological advance.
