Some mail clients (AOL for example) have no obvious and/or easy way to
turn off the HTML. The only true "fix" is to find (or write, if one
is so skilled) some "plug-in" that Majordomo (the mailing list
management software) can use in order to strip out HTML and RTF
information while leaving the text of the message intact.
As a some-times (more often than not) subscriber to the digest, I feel
your pain.
