Re: [Mid] Whats happening (Ohio Mart)

Ohio Mart (was/is) the annual fall Tudor-themed juried arts and crafts show
that happens at Stan Hywet Hall in Akron, Ohio. The house is the mansion
built by the Sieberlings, one of the 'rubber baron' families here.

It's always the first weekend in October, and it's almost always wet, cold,
sunny, rainy, sleety, fun, excruciating, amusing, and generally a big window
on how other folks see history. We're there from 10 AM to 5 PM Saturday and
Sunday.

Last night at dinner, after teardown, we had the usual "Best Questions"
rehash, with some of our favorite UNUSED sarcastic replies:

1. Are those shoes real? (I hope so, or else magic is keeping my feet dry.)
2. Are your clothes real? (by Sunday, you want to say, "Madam, do I LOOK
naked?)
3. What's for sale here? (Yeah, well, it's a shopping event, and some folks
don't get the 'knowledge is free' idea.)
4. Do those arrows have points? (No, we have BIG magnets behind the
targets.)
5. Why are the men wearing dresses? (Why don't you go ask him?)
6. Is that (poking at armor) heavy? (Hold it, and you tell me.)
7. Why are your tents cloth instead of waterproof nylon? (What's nylon?)
8. Is that Anne Boylen's head? (Heard in the garb tent on reference to one
of the wig heads on which we had modeled an Italian hairstyle and hair
jewelry.)
9. Are you cold? (Oh, no, my lipstick's just purple.)
10. How do you do THAT? (heard in every demonstration area all weekend
long!)

And if you missed the earlier thanks, once again I'd like to send a HUGE
hoobah to everyone from the forming barony of Brendoken, who represented the
marches of Gwyntarian [host group], Alderford, and Thistle, plus our
neighbors from Cleftlands and Tirnywydd. You all are the BOMB, and you make
it all happen!

Working my frozen fingers on the Marche of Gwyntarian's Ohio Mart demo: We
have *64* volunteers for this weekend!! Kudos to Alderford, Thistle, Three
Towers, Cleftlands, Tirnywydd and Barony Flaming Gryphon for all their
help!!! Back out into the cold...but man, the trees at our site are
STUNNING!!
