OT, but a fun thing I wanna share...

Today is Western Michigan University's Soapbox Derby run, as part
of their annual Homecoming activities.

This year, for the first time, Waldo Library (where I work) has
created an entry for the Soapbox derby. Technically we are named
"Dwight B. Waldo Library", so of course, our theme is "Where's
Waldo?" Of course I'm involved...I headed the decorating committee.
Watch out! They gave me scissors, tape, and plenty of time to think
about this....Danger Will Robinson!

Our car is made with a plywood base, Lexan sides, and plexiglass
top. We have adhered inside it old book jackets, clippings from book
jackets, clippings from magazines, pictures of all six University
Presidents, various buildings, Bob, Albert Einstein sticking out his
tongue :-), the arms of the Middle Kingdom (yes indeed), a valid WMU
faculty/staff parking sticker, a real Michigan license plate (one of
my old ones, 131 WMU), and in the nose of the vehicle, a color copy
of Munch's "The Scream".

We have also barcoded the car just like we barcode each book, it
has been cataloged, has its own call number, and is decorated with
"Do Not Circulate" and the title I gleaned from a book jacket:
"Beyond Belief". We have a hood ornament of the University's seal.

And of course, we have numerous depictions of Waldo, the character
from the "Where's Waldo" books. I had an absolute blast with this.

We go and register for the race at 11am, and the heats begin at
11:30. Think fast thoughts for us!
