Greetings and Well Met,
Tidings have reached me that much speculation and,
indeed, misinformation have abounded in this forum and
there is a need for clarification. I would like to
say, first, that although I am on this list, I do not
read the messages that are posted here. I have long
since been forced to give up a good many e-lists that
I belong to due to time constraints. If you are making
posts here thinking that I will see it, I need to tell
you that isn't the case.
The only way to ask a question, request a
replacement copy, or address a concern is to contact
me, preferably by e-mail, at <pale@midrealm.org> I
will be glad to assist you within the bounds of what I
have access to and the means to be of help. There are
areas in which I can't give much assistance except to
point out a direction for you to take action. Some of
these are: renewing membership in a timely fashion to
prevent mailing lapse, checking mailing address,
providing copies to those not entitled to receive
them, or delivery issues with your local Post Office.

I would like to take a moment to update all of you
on some issues that have effected the newsletter over
the last few months and to ask for your help with the
parts that you can effect.
Although the September Pale was finished before
Pennsic began, the mailing list was never received and
it could not be mailed. When the October mailing list
arrived, it was used to deliver the issue. Those of
you who did not receive the issue but were entitled to
get it may have one mailed to you if you will contact
me. The only people who should really fall in this
category are people who were members in September but
not in October or those whose copy was lost in the
mail. It is the individual member's responsibility to
keep their address updated with Milpitas, so copies
sent to the wrong address because this was not done
are not considered lost. They went exactly where they
were supposed to be sent.
An issue which has been an ongoing problem, though
mostly a minor one, really coupled with other factors
to cause great delays and expense with the October
issue. That is the use of FONTS and embedded materials
in ads and submitted material. It causes extra stages
in the publication process and several extra courier
expenses to resolve with the printer. This coupled
with some server issues, new software at the printer,
and some lost communications and requests made this a
major issue to fix instead of a minor one. I have
instituted some guidelines in the past to eliminate
this issue, but that only works if they are followed
and if I enforce them. I have been guilty of accepting
things which did not follow the set guidelines. I did
so because it was easier. Easier for me because I
needed the material to work on then (guess how much
material is submitted at or after the deadline) and
because I could fix it. I presumed easier for everyone
else since they didn't have to redo it. To put this to
rest for once and all, I will only accept material in
the format set out in the submission guidelines as
outlined in the Pale unless prior arrangements are
made. I don't want to suppress any creativity with ads
and such, because that would truly be a shame. I just
want the advance contact and time that I need to
determine availability of fonts and use of other
materials in the ad. I will not allow this to become a
problem in the future, even if I must refuse material
that I would like to accept.
Please follow the deadlines for submission. I will
enforce these accept in extenuating circumstances and
situations where I have worked something out in
advance.

Everyone should have this issue in hand by this
point.
