I'm hardly computer savvy, but I did have to replace my mouse and
keyboard not to long ago on my ancient gateway computer. I just went to
Wal-Mart and picked up a keyboard for $15 and a mouse for $10 and have
had absolutely no problem with them. I think the back of the packages on
the mouse and keyboard told me what computers they were compatible with.
Hope that helps. (My computer is a bit newer than the ones you are
talking about, I think mine was bought around 98 or 99, but I thought I
might let you know)

Please pardon the OT: "modern" technology question, but I'd like to
know if
a modern, probably more basic one, computer keyboard could be used
with
circa 1980s-early 1990s desktop computers? I think they're 286 or 386
machines.

I've been scouring my back computer room and library for all the
components
to these old systems. I've located the old CPUs, monitors, and I think
the
correct printers and the softwares (even back to DOS 2.?).
Unfortunately,
the keyboards haven't surfaced yet. (If you haven't gotten the hint
yet I
have a virtually modern computer "museum" here in my house. I keep
trying
to convince myself to seriously liquidate around here! :) )

I've offered to pass along one of these very old computers to a fellow
student in my MSW degree program at school who doesn't sound like she
can
afford anything toward a computer. After all, they're so out of date
compared to what I'm doing now they aren't doing me any good and just
taking
up much needed space in my small room. I thought why not put at least
one,
or both if she knows anyone in need and unable to afford to purchase a
modern computer, to "right and good" use by helping her?

Thanks for your time and information!

Darcellena
