If I'm taking someone to their first event, I
generally look for a non-local camping or crash on
site kind of event. Baring that, I look for crash
space at a friend's home.

This puts people in a situation where they can just
decide, this is unfamiliar - time to bolt. It also
shows them the full range of our social dynamic.

We wear more red and white.

At one level there are a lot of differences between us
and, say Calontir, AEthelmark or Meridies, but when
you get right down to it, most of them are a result of
which big personality people had what zipcodes when.

I dare say that if I took two groups from each Kingdom
and "filed the serial numbers off", you would be hard
pressed to tell me which group was from where.

I like Siobhan's: "When I can introduce a new person
to the SCA and watch their patented "Spielberg Look of
WonderTM""

My first bardic circle was a magic moment for me.

About 5 seconds before Master Jean Paul begged the
boon for me was kind of special. The laurel was nice
and all, but the HeyIknowwherethisschtickisgoing rush
of emotions was pretty incredible.
