1. What upcoming events would you recommend to a new comer to your kingdom
and/or the SCA?

Ooo! I've always been biased to Crystal Ball as a great newcomer's event as it was my first event and where i got hooked on the SCA. You get to learn all the dances durning the day and then dance them at the ball at night. It's also a GREAT way to meet folks as you can partner up with someone in a dance class and then fill out your dance card to partner with them at the ball. Plus, the food's always yummy!

Conversely, if you are interested in the Bardic Arts, Bardic Madness South is coming up on Nov. 20th. Anyone can bring something to perform and participate. Everyone who participates is a winner. :) Also a nice place to meet folks and have a chance to talk. Goodness knows bards WILL talk....

RUM would be fun too - a day of classes on various topics. Learn and meet and talk and learn some more.

2. What, in your opinion, differentiates the Middle Kingdom from other
kingdoms?

Hmm, i'm not the most widely travelled personage, so i don't know how valid my opinion is here. That being said, i guess we are, at heart, Midwesterners. Good, solid folk. Not a lot of fuss (email lists notwithstanding). I would say more, but i think my perceptions MAY be colored by having only lived in the Midlands for my SCA career. Heh. And, if you wanna know what that means, ask someone else. Go Midlands! Go Midlands!

3. What experience within the SCA do you hold the dearest, the one that
tingled with the "magic" we often talk about that makes the SCA such an
amazing place to play?

Oh my...so hard to choose. The most recent one occurred while retaining for Her Majesty Gunievre during Gulf Wars. I had the pleasure of sitting with her in the Ladies viewing gallery during the Equestrian events. How terribly medival it felt to have musicians playing, lovely food provided and lords and ladies on horseback thundering by and saluting as they went out to prove their skill at various challenges. It may be a romantical version of the middle ages, but it sure made me feel a bit like i had actually made it into one of my little girl fantasies with the knights on horseback and all. *smile*

Ta,

kytte
