Lia,

The short <OD:, :) >answer is that I won't paint THEIR piece. I'll paint
one of my own. :) Yes, I expect that they would rightly be upset if I
applied my paint brushes and overglaze paints/enamels to their Ming piece
then placed it in my kiln for firing. That's why I'll simply paint a new
piece on an appropriate form using my historic oil-based porcelain
painting methods.

Part of the more serious answer is that it would be impossible to
precisely reproduce their exact piece due to the nature of the drawing and
painting process. I free-hand draw onto the porcelain blanks I use.
Scale of the blank is also a factor. Essentially any reproduction piece
ends up being that artisan's interpretation of the original piece for a
variety of factors, despite even the most exacting attempts at precise
reproduction in decoration. Even if I repeatedly paint the same design,
due to the methods I use, it is impossible to EXACTLY do each one
precisely identically. Since we're humans how can an artisan using the
methods that I use lay brush strokes down and apply paint or precious
metals gilding (e.g., gold) in precisely the same way every time?; You
don't.

I hope this both humerously and seriously helps to answer your question.

<shh, Now let's talk about Hroar as if HE weren't here... :), OD: ....Hi
to you too sweetie! :) >
