In recent years I've picked up needlepoint, partly in tribute to my late grandmother (who did many beautiful pieces including chairs and rugs) and partly because it's the perfect thing for call center work -- take a stitch or two while you're sitting there listening to someone's phone ring, then set it down while you dial the next call, no train of thought required, makes the time pass much faster. I'm wondering whether anyone knows anything about whether what we call needlepoint -- monodirectional diagonal stitches in wool (or other yarn) in varying colors to create a design on a canvas of anywhere from six to twenty threads per inch -- was done during the SCA period, and if so, where I can find out more about it.

While you think about that, feel free to join me in drooling over this -- it's needlepoint kits in various sizes of the Lady and the Unicorn tapestries, including some REALLY big ones: http://www.discountneedlework.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=30
