Caedmon,

I've also toyed with the idea of starting thrown weapons as well. A couple or three questions.

What do you use or what can be used as a cheap, durable target...no stumps in my yard :( Do I need to go chopping down trees and fashion my own stump or are there alternatives?

Have you thrown the Cold Steel Norse Hawks? What do you think about them? I have toyed with throwing the ones I own and can't quite get the hang of it...is it me (quite probably) or are these hawks not balanced well? Practice more or buy some new axes?

Finally, have you made any spears using SKS spike bayonets and rake handles? I read an article on the internet about making a throwing spear similar to what you've described, but replacing the screw with a spike bayonet and purchased three of them for about $3 / each at the last gun show I attended. Have you thrown one of these? I'm going to make a few spears using them and I'll post the results.
