Greetings.
As some of you know, my wife and I arrived in the Midrealm from Caid, some
20 months ago. We had the fortune to purchase 135 acres in North Central
Kentucky, some 65 minutes from the UK campus in Lexington and 85 minutes
Nicholson's Scottish Pub in Downtown Cincinnati, Ohio

The SCA component being more inclined to indoor events in the Midrealm, our
offers of parts of the property to be used for SCA events have
gone unanswered. The needs of a broken racehorse caught my attention in late
June, and on July 1st, Johnny Ringo, a 12 year old, British born veteren of
the racing circuit in GB, Ireland and the US arrived here in permanent
retirement. We have grown to 8 in number, and filed for our 501c3 to take
tax-deductable donations for the facility.

Through some mystery of the universe still truly unbeknownst to us, we and
our horse rescue were sought out by the writers at the Los Angeles Times for
inclusion in an article regarding the condition of the horses during the
huge drought and banning of the slaughter in the US. Our rescue is mentioned
at the end of the piece. The article ran Sunday, Jan 13, and two of our
horses were featured on the front page of the Times. The article ran further
in the A section.

Here is the link to the on-line version at the times:

The photographer that came out, spent 4 hours and shot about a thousand
pics, 16 of which appear in a quick slide show he put together here at this
link, depicting a morning in the barn we have built in the last 3 months:

The upshot is that we are getting good press all over, but the problem
remains, what to do with our SCA link.

I have decided to contruct a semi-permanent tourney and jousting field,
w/watering facilties. For those that are in equestrian, the highway access
is superb. That being said, I would like to get advice from the Kingdom's
equestrian community for suggestions on size, runup and holding spaces, etc.

For the SCA at large, there is good camping here, good fighting terrain for
heavies, and groceries 12 minutes away. We have space for archery as well as
coursing, and a broad shaded area for merchants. We MAY have horses for rent
down the line, but that is getting ahead of ourselves.

The weather here can be mercurial, but some months have amazingly wonderful
weather for events.

Anyway, thanks for indulging me, and I hope to hear from a few equestrian
people.
