I have been thinking about the needs of the teenage crowd at Pennsic and
ways they could be reached. If we are going to engage them I thought of
some classes that could do that.

Is there anyone out there who is a qualified self- defense instructor?
We need someone to teach a self defense class at Pennsic for TEENS
regardless of gender. They will be able to use it in their adult life if
they are in the SCA or not.

How about music appreciation? Someone could present a class for TEENS on
music composition and translating modern music to sound like medieval
music. Example in mind: Sabbatum the group that adapts songs from Black
Sabbath into medieval sounding works.

Storytelling and Song writing and bardic arts in general? TEENS have
plenty of dramas to think about- channel that into a class on putting it
into a song- or story- or poetry. Present results as a performance if
possible

Acting and Plays? An all TEEN production of a medieval play- directed
and run by teens and presented on the stage. They like to act- look at
the popularity of Cosplay!

Orchestra? How many teens end up in the school band or orchestra? Many
of the instruments are medieval- learn a piece before or during Pennsic
- and perform it.

What other ideas come to mind?

This may not win over all the teens- but it will give them opportunities
to participate. Sure, I know it probably has been tried, but it needs to
be continuously tried. There are new teens every year.
