Illumination Cheats for Absolute Beginners - Dame Anna of the Western Hill

So You Want to Be a Scribe? - THL Finnseach de Locheil
So, you like to draw and calligraphy fascinates you. You've learned at least a little of both, now what? This class will cover resources for more ideas and how to "get started" actually doing award scrolls. This is not a "Learn to Draw" or "Learn Calligraphy" class, but goes into how to get your work to "The Powers That Be."

Super Simple Silverpoint - Baroness Milesent Vibert, OL
Metalpoints were used to draw, rule and sketch in manuscripts and artwork as early as the 12th century and remained popular until replaced by the modern graphite pencil around 1800. This class covers the history as well as how to make and use of this surprisingly easy and inexpensive media.

Bidding the Bedes: An Introduction to Paternosters - Lady Elizabethe Alles
In the 13th -16th centuries in western Europe, prayer beads were an ubiquitous accessory. This class discusses the history and development of the paternoster, as well as providing information on making your own replica. **12 kits will be available for $5 each for students to make a bone and/or glass paternoster. Additional listeners welcome.

Natural Henna Body Art 101 - Olena of Dernehealde

Good bones, Good story - Juliane Bechaumpe
A hands-on class that covers how to analyze a good tale, pull it apart and turn it into a well-constructed story of five minutes (or less!) (standard Bardic Circle length). In order to work well this class should be scheduled for at least 90 minutes, depending on the size of the class. The first 30 minutes is more or less lecture, the balance is a "lab," with the class actually going through the steps and performing the results at the end of the session. Handout of sources provided.

Arts & Sciences Info

If you pursue any of the Gentle Arts and Sciences I invite you to do honor to Their Royal Majesties, Radagaisus and Ceinwen, and Their Royal Heirs, Ullr and AnneLyse, through the sharing your knowledge and skill by presenting examples of your skill.

There will be two A&S competitions held:

The "First Tries" competition

Sponsored by THL McKenna, this competition is intended to encourage the populace to 'just do stuff.' The "First Tries" competition has been a success at several events. It has only one criterion--it's the entrant's first try at something they've never done before and/or have minuscule experience with. Its rules are appended below.

Patronesses of the Gentle Arts Competition

Sponsored by the Barony of the Middle Marches. As time is short before the event there is no particular theme. Documentation is suggested, but not required. As our Royal Ladies are noted patronesses of the Arts and Sciences there will be three prizes: one will be judged by Her Highness Annelyse, one by Her Majesty Ceinwen, and one by their hostess, Her Excellency, Isabeau de Forbeis, Baroness Middle Marches. Artisans should also feel free to bring a display of their work, even if they do not wish it considered in the contest.

Bardic Circle

The heralds will call to gather in a Bardic Circle all performers in attendance, and any such of the populace as love mirth and merriment and songs and tales well told. There shall we hold a competition. The Master of the Revel will bid each around the circle in turn to Play (a song, story, joke, etc., not necessarily an entry), Pass (to the next person), Pick (someone else to perform), or Compete (your performance is an entry--multiple entries permitted). There will be multiple prize categories and documentation is not required. As of this time it is anticipated the winner(s) of a category will be requested to perform at feast for the entertainment of the Royal family and Their noble guests.

This Bardic Circle and Competition is sponsored by my fellow Bards of the Middle Marches, and my friends of Gorsedd, the community of bards of the North Oaken region.

Teach a class! If you pursue any of the Gentle Arts and Sciences, pray do honor to the Crown through the sharing your knowledge and skill by teaching at this auspicious event. If you have aught to offer, please you to contact the Coordinator of Classes, my gracious colleague, Lady Nyah MacPhee (nyahmacphee[at]gmail.com) to register.

Inquires on Arts & Sciences matters may be sent to THL Kenna McKenna (mckennawerks[at]gmail.com)
