"Missing" Groups of the Barony
As can been noted, I have spoken of these places that belonged and those that still belong to the Middle Marches in no particular order. I am certain that more about these groups can be included given time and participation from their populations or those who once resided therein. What follows is a list of groups for which little, if anything, is known at this time. Because it is the most documented of them, finding them in the Baronial Pursuivant's files, Afoncroes will get first mention.
Afoncroes was a fledgling group in the Marietta/Parkersburg area that tried to establish a group on the Marietta College Campus around 1991 and 1992. Because the majority of members were students, it was difficult to form a solid base for the group. Also, from my earlier years, I can attest that the College administration could be quite hidebound if they felt that your endeavor was not in their best interest. When the officers purchased handbooks with their own money - the shire having little or none for such purposes - these books went with them when they graduated, leaving the new Officers anything with which to work. Transportation to other meetings or events proved very difficult and most times impossible. Most of these gentles didn't know who to contact or how to deal with the person once they did. These gentles had more than their share of woe and I hope someone will try again in that part of the Barony. I just do not know if they could cope, however. I lived there and worked there in that particular area and it seemed to me that stolid and "sensible" has always been the order of the day so that those who dream grand dreams of errantry and courtly love are ignored or pushed aside.
Having looked at this file and having viewed many others detailing some of the same problems, it is very likely that the following groups had the same tale of woe. In time to come, I will find out more if there is anything to find.
Blackwater/Emerald Pool was mentioned in the "Book of Lists" from The Pale entries in June and October of 1993, respectively. In "The Vigil," they were mentioned a few times, but only by name and "Who are your officers???" They were in Rio Grande.
Silver Mists was situated in the same place, one cryptic mention is all there is to this group and that it pre-dates Blackwater/Emerald Pool. I cannot find the note I wrote from one of the "Vigils" and so must look for it again later.
Distel Strom was in Lorrain and Lady Adrianna de la Telarana of Falcon's Quarry gave me a lead which has not born fruit as yet. Perhaps it will yet and more will be forthcoming.
The Canton of Pilgrims Rest was mentioned in The Pale in January of 1993. It may or it may not have been a College group. There are untapped sources, left so only because I know they are so very busy at this time that can tell me the tale later.
In Hiram was Verloreners Mark, "The March of the Lost Ones." An interesting name, that, as they really are lost now. No information in "The Vigil" was forthcoming beyond their name and "Who are your officers???"
