July 2007 Greetings unto the Noble People of the Midrealm from your Kingdom Minister of Youth, You all have been hearing a lot about the “New Two Deep” policy lately. Well, this policy is really not new. It is the same policy we have been following for the last few years. So, if we have been following our polices then the recent revisions of the Society Youth policies should not affect how youth activities are run in the Midrealm. The revisions to the Society policies have only provided much needed direction (permission) on dealing with parents and youth activity coordinators that do not follow the policies. While I have your attention I would like to bring up another issue: Parents and guardians – You MUST sign your child in and out of youth activities. Your child CANNOT come and go as they please. Your child’s safety is your responsibility. How can you know that they are safe and sound if you do not know where your child is, who they are with, or what they are doing? I recently had a very surprised parent pulled from a conversation in another part of the event site to sign his child out of an activity. He stated that he did not know that his child had to be signed out… and then asked when this became a requirement. This has me concerned. If he did not know about the policy - then he must not have read the policies - nor did the folks running the youth activities at the events this child previously attended. This is NOT good! Again, this is another “not new” policy so why aren’t we following it? Parents, instructors, marshals, and volunteers – please keep up to date on Midrealm and Society youth policies. It is important that we all understand and follow the rules for the safety of our children. For more information on the Midrealm and Society polices please visit the Midrealm Minister of Youth website. Okay – now for something fun. Pennsic just around the corner! The Midrealm will be sponsoring Youth Pointe on Monday August 6th and Teen Night on August 7th. We need volunteers! If you would like to teach a class or assist at Youth Pointe on “Midrealm Monday” or donate refreshment items for “Teen Night” please contact me as soon as possible at . Youth Pointe will open August 4th under the guidance of the Pennsic Youth Activity Coordinator, Dame Nicholaa Halden. Please contact Nicholaa to find out more about youth activities and volunteer opportunities. You can also visit the Pennsic Youth site: http://www.pennsicwar.org/penn36/GENERAL/youth.html. We are always looking for ways to improve and expand our youth activities. Please contact me with your ideas and suggestion. In service to our youth,
