November 2008 Greetings to all, I have had the great joy of working with children my entire adult life, both in the mundane world and my years within the Society. I have learned many things from children, one of which is that I will never cease to be amazed and inspired by what they do. At Pennsic this summer, I had the opportunity to again be reminded of how wonderful children can be. The Barony of Northwoods held a tournament the Sunday starting War Week called “My Mother Can Beat Up Your Mother”. All participants were to fight for the honor of their favorite child. With only photographic responsibilities for the event, I was able to watch the children. I spent some time watching Lady Petranella and her son Leoric of House Ironwolf. Leoric (who has been fighting boffers since he was big enough to wield a golf tube) followed his mom’s every move, positioned himself to watch every bout and chatted with mom in between the fighting. Later when I mentioned to Lady Petranella that I noticed her son’s kind attention for her, she told me he had been coaching her the whole time. How neat for him to take the time and thought to assist mom in such a way. How wonderful that we as a society can raise our children to love our game and play it well. And especially, how marvelous all, that they give back to us. Many have said it before, children are the future of our game. Yours in service and Thanksgiving Previous Pale Letters Anthoinette Martel
