MK MoY Letters to the PALE

February 2008

Greetings to all of the Midrealm who hold our children dear,

In this season of snow and chill, what better way to entertain our young ones that by cooking together. It warms the heart, soul, and body. Breads can always use the extra kneading that young hands can provide. Cakes such as Jumbels (actually a cookie) can be formed into fun shapes by our young ones. Recipes can be found for Jumbels in Markham’s The English Housewife and Plats Delightes for Ladies. Sugar paste is really a lot like play doh, only edible, and you can purchase gum paste mix in the cake decorating section to simplify the process. Thick soup and pottage recipes can be found in the many old cook books and kids can learn great cooking practices by learning safe cutting or mixing and measuring skills.

After a successful, or even not so successful cooking session, consider helping your child prepare an A & S entry for this spring. Children’s arts as sciences entries do not need documentation although a recipe is nice, and are not judged but rather celebrated at the exhibition. Entries can be at regional or kingdom levels and are most appreciated by the many adult artisans.

Background checks are underway in February. Regional ministers, seneschals, or kingdom officials will have informed those who need to be checked in order to continue working with our youth. If you have questions, my contact information is .
