September 2008 Greetings to all, First, business. With many background checks finished, we need to be certain that there is at least one background checked adult at all events with youth activities. Regional Youth Ministers and I have lists that are updated monthly of the good gentles that have passed their checks. I am asking all autocrats and folks in charge of youth activities of upcoming events to be certain that they have someone with a background check on site. Regional ministers and I can confirm with autocrats those who have passed. The listings are by membership number only, so when checking please remember to get the membership number. If you receive an email or call asking you who will be the background checked individual at your event, please remember we are just doing what is necessary for our children. Next, fun. Fall is coming. This is the time of harvest and preservation of foods for the winter months. Take a field trip with your children to a cider mill or nature center for the pressing of cider. Many places still use hand crank presses that have changed little over the last 600 years. If you do not have the pleasure of an herb garden, visit a farmers market and buy bunches of sweet smelling herbs. Hang the bunches to dry in a closet. Leave the herbs hanging, or crush them together and put it into cloth bags to sweeten drawers, rooms, or even armor bags! Have your child decorate the bags and give them as gifts. Add lavender and tuck them under your pillow for sweet dreams. Antoinette |
