Pentathlon Group Entry Rules

After much consternation and beating about the head and shoulders of various parities (including myself), I have decided to allow group entries in the Pentathlon on an experimental basis. Here is the wording (and much work was done for so few words):

  1. The entry must be entered under one individual's name. No other performer may enter the performance or any other part of the performance (music, research, performance category, etc.)
  2. The group's performance must be a result of the entrant's sole efforts... i.e., the entrant must have chosen the music, arranged the group, directed the group, etc. This must be supported in the documentation, explaining the reason for the arrangement, its appropriateness to period, voice selection, etc.
  3. There will be no personnel substitutions allowed once the entry is submitted (see below). If a member of the group cannot perform, their position will remain unfilled.
  4. All entries for this must be submitted to the KMOAS 2 weeks before the competition. Contact the KMOAS for minimum submission requirements. Since the Constellation A&S is too soon for this, the time limit is reduced to 1 week, but only for that competition.

Now, as to using videotape, it was not a success in any way last year when we tried it. The entrant did not like the result, the judges disliked it, and the overall result was unsatisfactory. So I asked myself "Why can the entrant not choose persons who will commit to 2 performances?" That is part of the challenge, I guess, but if you lose someone, you can still perform at Kingdom.

Oh, and my minimal criteria is to know who is in the group, what you are going to perform, and a statement supporting the first 2 points. I am relying on honor about the work presented being the entrant's work.

I hope this will work for everyone in the A&S Pentathlon Competition. If it does well, I hope to institute this as a standard part of the rules set.
