Richard “Bear Hammer” Marius
Richard was born outside the town of Moravia in 1360. Richard was the only son of a wealthy merchant family. In 1368 his family was murdered in an attack by troops from Hungary. Richard took shelter in a local church for several weeks after the attack. It was at this time that the members of House Marius showed up and found out about the attack. Richard went with House Marius and was adopted by Brannith and become a member of House Marius.
After becoming a member of the house he was put into training. He showed a natural proficiency with armed combat and hand to hand fighting, especially with sword and hammer. At a young age he become a warrior in the house and was tasked with defending trade caravans and guarding the House Marius estate in Burgundy.
In his first battle as a house guard he gained several severe wounds but single handedly dispatched seven enemy soldiers.
In 1372 Richard was with the house guard on a trip to Buda Pest (Hungary). Toward the end of the mission Richard was with Brannith and the others when they come upon a small child being beaten by an older gentleman. Brannith stepped in to stop this as Richard protected his back. Later it was found out that the older gentleman was a noble of high rank and office. Richard, and the others, were exiled from the country and barred from returning. Till this day there is still animosity between House Marius and the Hungarian crown.
At one point in the summer of 1374 Richard and the other young members of House Marius (Reynaud, Kyrien, Arragorn, Casamir, Richard and Hector) were out on a hunting trip. They ran across what appeared to be a traveling circus, but in fact was a group of bandits that had trained stolen a bear from an estate in Pisa and trained it to meet their vile purpose. The bandits attacked the young Marius group and a fight ensued. The bandits were swiftly dispatched and Richard killed the bear, which was about to attack one of his kinsmen, with his hammer. From that day forward the members of his family called him Richard “Bear Hammer” Marius.
At this point several of his brothers started attending many local, and not so local, tournaments. Richard did not compete in many of these tournaments but did come along for protection, touring local towns, and visiting a multitude of churches.
