Groups maintenance Some common questions regarding use of the Rimsholt list. 5.1) Purpose of the Rimsholt list The text below is quoted directly from the welcome message you received when you first subscribed to this list. ==================================================================== Welcome to the Rimsholt Community on Yahoo! Groups This is an email list for announcements of general interest to the Canton of Rimsholt in the Barony of Andelcrag of the Middle Kingdom. This is not designed to be a "chat" list but rather a place to ask questions and post information regarding meetings, practices, A&S classes and other topics of interest to the members of the Canton of Rimsholt. If you are posting something that doesn't directly relate to Canton business, but is still of interest to members of the populace, please prefix the Subject with "OT". We do ask that before you post anything not directly related to SCA business or period topics that you please reconsider posting the message. At least put the "OT" in front of the post if you do post it. Please take a moment to read the FAQ which should be in a separate email to you. Hopefully it will answer any immediate questions you have. Also if you are new to the Rimsholt Yahoo! Group, please take a moment to introduce yourself Thanks and welcome to the Rimsholt List Baron Benedict of Beverly (list owner), Lord Richard vanUtrecht (moderator) ======================================================================= Some simple rules of email list etiquette. 1 - If a topic becomes a conversation between three or fewer members please take it to private email. 2 - Don't post virus warnings, searches for lost children, jokes or funny stories "everyone will just love to hear" or cookie recipes to the entire list, don't forward anything to the list that has been forwarded more than three times. Remember that if someone tells you to forward a message to all your friends it probably is a hoax, or is something we have all heard before. 3 - When quoting previous messages, trim off the headers and footers, only quote the relevant portion of the message. 4 - Keep it nice and clean, this is a public list. No Profanity, no personal attacks. Don't post anything you don't want the entire world to see. 5.2) Setting mail options (digest/no mail) You can change your email options with Yahoo! Groups to three different options. Email, Digest, or "no-mail". The email option sends you postings to the list as individual email. One email for every posting. The Digest option sends you a digest of postings. Digests are generated once per day and/or every 25 posts. Use this option when you don't necessarily want to get every individual email. The "no-mail" option stops the sending of email to you from the list. You can still post and are still subscribed but no postings are mailed to you. With this option you can go to the Yahoo! Groups site and read the posts in the archives. Note: this requires that you have a Yahoo! ID You can change your mail options by going to the Rimsholt Community Homepage on Yahoo! Groups: http://groups.yahoo.com/groups/Rimsholt And clicking on the "Modify" button. Alternately you can change your email delivery options without going to the Yahoo! Groups web page (which can be really slow sometimes) You can do this by sending a blank message (no subject/no message) to the following address: To change your subscription to a daily digest: Send blank message to Rimsholt-digest@yahoogroups.com To change your subscription to individual emails: Send blank message to Rimsholt-normal@yahoogroups.com To put your subscription of hold: Send a blank message to Rimsholt-nomail@yahoogroups.com 5.3) How do I stop email when I go to Pennsic or Gulf Wars? When going away from your email for an extended period of time you can stop delivery of the Rimsholt list so that your mailbox doesn't overflow with messages while you are away. When you want the email to stop: Send a blank message to Rimsholt-nomail@yahoogroups.com This will change your subscription to hold. When you return and want to resume email from the list: Send a blank message to Rimsholt-normal@yahoogroups.com (for normal email delivery) or Send a blank email to Rimsholt-digest@yahoogroups.com (for daily digest delivery) 5.4) Why can't I send pictures or attachments to the list? The Rimsholt list is currently configured to not allow email attachments. This is done in the interest of download time and security. Some people have slow modems and downloading attachments can take a lot of time. Also, there is always the risk of accidentally sending a virus infected file to everyone on the list. 6) Other Misc. Questions 6.1) How do I get on the mailing list for the Rimsholt Bolt? The easy answer is making sure that the Canton Chronicler has your current mailing address. The Rimsholt Bolt is currently mailed out free of charge to all members of the Canton of Rimsholt who ask for a paper copy. To keep costs to the Canton down, we ask that if you can view the Bolt on-line that you do so. Bolts can be found at http://www.midrealm.org/rimsholt/bolt.htm In addition if you are not getting a Rimsholt Bolt you are also probably not getting a copy of the "Scandalcrag", the newsletter of the Barony of Andelcrag. This is also currently being mailed out free of charge to all members of the Barony. To keep costs down, the Baronial Chronicler asks that if you can, please do so by browsing to http://www.midrealm.org/andelcrag/scandelcrag.htm You can make sure of getting your paper copy or notification of the availability of the Scandelcrag on-line by sending your current mailing information to the Baronial Chronicler at mailto:scandelcrag@hotmail.com 6.2) How do I get a hold of...?/get in contact with...? If you are looking for a member of the Canton and they are an officer you might try looking first on the Rimsholt Web page. If not try posting a request for information on the list. The same goes for other gentles within the Barony of Andelcrag. Quite a few of the people on this list have copies of the "Boke of Andelcrag" which contains contact information for most of the people in the Barony. If you are replying to someone's request for information please do so using private email. Some people may not wish their personal information (phone#, address, work info) posted in a public place, please respect their privacy.
