Video: SCA_commercial.mpg
was created for a Video Editing class assignment by our own Lorelei Skye of
Rivenstar, in September of 2001. It's about an 8MB file, 50 seconds long,
cut down from over six hours of footage captured during Rivenstar's fall event
that year,
the Known World Animal Husbandry Symposium. Just clink on the link to
watch it. Please
contact the
webmistress if there are any problems viewing or downloading this file.
Video_penguin_fling.MPG(approx. 2 MB) is an eight-second snippet that shows our siege crew
doing what they do best - flinging small projectiles with joy and
abandon. In this case, the objects are two-inch-high penguins and
are being flung as part of a fundraiser for local charity. Please
notify the webmistress
if you have any difficulty downloading or
viewing the file.
His Excellency Moonwulf
has said that he turned around one day to discover that Rivenstar had become
known and respected as an arts Barony, "despite his influence". This page is dedicated to all the crafters, teachers, and
researchers within our populace. In future, this list will fill out to
become a kind of directory by specialty of everyone who does anything artistic
within the Barony.
Please note: This
page contains links that connect to sites over which neither the SCA nor
The Barony of Rivenstar has any control.
The Rivenstar
Madrigal Singers, or Madrigali, have been singing together since 1989, and
are currently directed by His Excellency Pieter van
Doorn. Under his leadership, the Madrigali have produced a recording of
over forty period songs and carols which is still available for purchase.
Contact
Pieter for more information. The Madrigali earned an award of the Purple
Fretty in 1992 (before the advent of the Award of the Grove), followed
by an Award of the Grove
in 1997.
Polyhymnia was an "advanced" subset of the Rivenstar Madrigali,
consisting of Romas, Silvija the Landlady, Catherine Rose, and William
Michael Kelricksson, which tackled more challenging music than the
larger choir while still singing with the Madrigali at every
opportunity. They existed from 1992 until Sylvija and Romas moved
to Florida (year unknown), and earned the Award of the Grove in 1995.
The Rivenstar Scriptorium was active from July 2001 to July 2004,
producing dozens of scrolls for both the Middle Kingdom and the Principality of
Cynagua, West Kingdom. In that short time, its members earned two Willows,
one Evergreen, a Purple Fret and a Doe's Grace for their skill and service in the
scribal arts. The group as a whole also received the Award of the Grove
for the beauty of their work. Perhaps their greatest accomplishment was a
three-month-long group collaboration to create the "Laurel Book" for Master
Fionnbharr macShane's elevation to the Order of the Laurel. While the
Scriptorium is now defunct,
its website continues
to showcase the work of its members.
Research and Teaching
Admittedly, research is a special skill in and of itself, separate from the
skills required to teach in a classroom setting; however, anyone who is
knowledgeable enough to teach a subject has probably already done quite a bit of
research! Therefore, rather than being redundant and listing the two skills separately, I have
chosen to list both research and teaching together here. An asterisk * after a
specific topic indicates that this person has taught or is willing to teach that
topic. If you, the reader, are interested in learning more about the
various subjects listed below,
please
contact our Minister of Arts and Sciences, and she will put you in touch
with the right person.
