Rivenstar is a wonderful home that inspires a great sense of community in its populace. It is natural that there smaller groups would form within the larger community, as individuals come together to pursue common ideals. This page is dedicated to the many thriving households which our members claim as "second families".

"It's an ambush, sir - there are TWO of them!"
"I want to be one of Moonwulf's Rangers,
I want to live a life of *hrggaaakkkk*...."While largely dormant, Moonwulf's Rangers still retains its legendary status as a fighting unit of unsurpassed skill and... um... daring. Members are created by invitation only, usually after Moonwulf witnesses someone performing an act of extreme bravery or insanit-- daring, we meant daring, on the battlefield. On occasion and at need, the Rangers reform long enough to accomplish a specific battlefield goal and earn themselves yet more renown.
Members: the full membership in this unit spans decades; rather than show disrespect by failing to list any name that belongs here, we prefer to say, "Watch for the green and black Ranger cords hanging from their belts."
Founder: His Grace Moonwulf Starkaadhersson, Baron Rivenstar
Moonwulf's current and former squires and men-at-arms are numerous, and many have gone on to become Knights or Masters of Arms with dependents of their own. It is said that their Super Secret Goal is to eventually place a descendant of Moonwulf's fighting lineage upon the throne in every Kingdom simultaneously, and then in a spectacular coup they will declare Moonwulf "God-Emperor of the Known World". When asked, His Grace always laughs and changes the subject... but he never quite denies anything.
House Father, Master Sigulf Karlnar
The Rats are a venerable household, known for service with a smile and good-natured treachery: Their members will perform nearly any task for the price of a quarter, and once paid, are honor-bound to complete their work. The trick is to see if you can sneak them the quarter without specifying the task first. It is of note that His Grace Jafar al-Safa was a member of House Rodentia; after his death, some members reported finding quarters in their path wherever they went. When the ballista "Jafar" was complete, Master Sigulf found a quarter in the grass just as Moonwulf was stepping forward to attach the weapon's name-banner. That quarter was nailed to the weapon's frame first, where it remains.
House Father, Sir Ivar "Morgath" Idthur-Drengr; House Mother, Lady Igrainne Gunnrsdottir
German for "War Storm", and affectionately known as "Thugs" and "The Brute Squad", Haus Kriegsturm is a widely respected, tight-knit fighting household with members spread throughout the Constellation Region and beyond. Membership is by invitation, and it is not necessary to be a squire to Sir Ivar to join. Members are also encouraged to pursue the arts, and the household boasts some of the most skilled craftsmen and women of the Known World. From their webpage:
"Haus Kriegsturm fights for Kingdom and Kindred, that the Dragon Throne may reign gloriously in strength and peace, and that our fallen Brothers and Sisters may be remembered with honor. A red sun rises in a storm-tossed sky and death can be seen smiling from within. The Warstorm rides this day; fight with us, or die honorably."
House Father, Sir Pieter van Doorn; House Mother, Mistress Nan Astrid of York
House Doorn consists of Nan and Pieter's squires and protégé's and their immediate families. All members are well-versed in Pieter's One Rule: "If I am inclined to offer an opinion, you have to at least listen." Lest this seem too harsh, Pieter always adds, "You don't have to do what I say, and in fact you can even immediately respond with, 'Pieter, I think you're full of it!' if you are so inclined, but you have to at least listen first." It is of note that Nan's usual response is to smile and roll her eyes fondly, thereby setting an example which many of the household's members follow. For her part, Nan's One Rule seems to be that no one shall leave her table hungry, a decree which is followed enthusiastically at every possible opportunity.
Members: Sergeant Aiden of Steren Codha; Alwynne of Rivenstar; Annabelle Makmyllane; Bethany MacDonald; Bethie; Cynthia the Invisible; Danila of Dacia ; Eirinn nan Eillean; Warder Gallien Le Cavalier de l'Ile; Janusz Zawisza; Tamar Darkwood; Vaernon Claye
House Mother, Mistress Isabeau Pferdebandiger; House Father, Sir Fionnbharr macShane
Shortly after the elevations of Isabeau Pferdebandiger and her husband, Fionnbharr macShane (who received both the Laurel and the Chivalry on the same day), they each felt it would be best to leave Huis Doorn and establish their own household, so as to be better prepared to attend to their own dependents. This arrangement was deemed wise and proper, and the separation was blessed wholeheartedly by all involved.
Veritatis Splendor is Latin for "Beauty of Truth". Its goals are not to be known for a specific emphasis, such as "arts" or "fighting" households, but its members all coincidentally happen to be equestrians in addition to their other pursuits.
Members: Lady Liduina Twinthrower, called "Leet"; Lord Timotheous Symmes; Lady Roskva the Rus; Lord Blackhart the Smith
Founders
Within the space of only a few years, Rivenstar's rapier corps tripled in size. Being located on a university campus meant that many of our fencers were students, who tend to move away upon graduation. This presented a blessing in disguise as it caused Rivenstar's influence to spread far beyond the barony's borders. Dawning Star was formed to promote rapier fighting throughout the Constellation Region, but its members also pledge to serve the rapier community wherever they may go - and they go quite far indeed.
Members
Founder, Lady Katalena Izmaragd Ivanova
One of Rivenstar's newest households, Fiery Rose is dedicated to promoting Middle Eastern dance, and to researching styles of dance, music, and costume so that their performances may reflect medieval styles more accurately. Several members began their studies with the Oasis Dancers, and some continue to perform in both groups.
