Lord Viçente Xavier Raposo An introductory course on storytelling and schtick, beginning with notes on diction, projection, and performance elements such as dynamics and crowd reading/engagement.  We will cover how to boast, how to give appropriate and playful insults in context, and the basic elements of telling a story, both structural and performative. Hosted by The Honorable Lady Felice Debbage Come trip the light fantastic while listening to the beautiful tunes of live musicians. Complete beginners and children are most welcome—nearly all of the dances will be taught beforehand, and many are as easy as pie. The  afternoon dances shall be chosen from the list below. The dancing will be continued until 6pm.!

Improv Warm-Ups for Performers [Iron Commedia Open Elective]

  Take a mid-day break with some improv exercises and warm-ups for performers of any style, for the beginner or experienced. Feel free to bring your lunch and come to class anytime during the hour. None None 55 minutes $0
Writing a Brand New 16th Century Play [Iron Commedia 201]

Commedia dell'Arte used scenarios, brief plot outlines filled with stock characters, and running gags upon which the actors would improvise the dialogue and action. In this workshop, you'll learn how to write your own scenario and develop it with your group. We plan to have a new scenario by the end of the hour, possibly to be used for the capstone performance at 4:30! None None 55 minutes $0
A Commedia Play in a Day [Iron Commedia 202]

i Verdi Confusi will join any interested fools to create a brand new play in the style of Commedia dell'Arte from the Italian Renaissance. We'll write it, cast it, rehearse it, and then perform it at 4:30 with your help! And yes, this folly is both possible and Period! None None 1 hour

  i Verdi Confusi and new friends will present a short Commedia dell'Arte play crafted, created, and cast only earlier in the afternoon! Come join the earlier workshops or come see the resultant capstone production and world premiere of a brand new 16th Century Renaissance comedy! None None 30 minutes $0
While all the workshops are designed to build upon a sequence, feel free to attend whichever you want and are available for. The two hour session at the end of the afternoon is open for anyone interested even if you have been unable to attend the earlier workshops.
Skaldic Skills for the Scadian

Captain Denewulf Ivarsson A basic introduction to Anglo-Saxon and Old Norse poetry. Topics covered will include a brief history of AS/ON poetry, discussion of form, function and meter, and appreciation and composition. Focus is on how these poetic meters can be applied and appreciated in the SCA context.     55 minutes
