In the spirit of the holidays and upcoming A&S season, there shall be three different arts & sciences competitions at this year's Twelfth Night.
Further, it shall become the duty of the Baronial Cooking Champion to introduce the cooks and kitcheners to the populace at feast by name, and see them properly thanked and recognized, that Their Excellencies and the populace may better know those who work so diligently to provide the feasts that are a cornerstone of our SCA events.
Finally, the tradition in the Middle Marches has in the past been that once someone has been a champion they cannot hold the office of that particular champion again. However-and again after a great deal of deliberation-since this represents a fundamental and significant change from the Cooking Champion competitions in the past, there is as well a modification of entrant eligibility from previous practice. We're starting with a clean slate: those who have previously held the office of Baronial Cooking Champion may again compete should they wish to.
The rules:
Richard of Essex, the autocrat, intends feast to be a Tudor pot-luck and will be posting recipes and ingredients lists. This is an item IN ADDITION to your Tudor pot-luck contribution.
During the day the delectable delights presented will be sampled by one and all and a 'bean count' will advise her gracious Excellency Baroness Barbie in making the final decision--which she will channel through Baron Lamorak, her noble consort.
Items should be from period recipes, but need not be Tudor, documentation required is an ingredients list (for allergy prone folk), name of the item, historical time period of the item, and the recipe. Both original and redacted versions of the recipe are preferred, but only the redacted version is required.
The item should be an EDIBLE entremet, illusion food, dessert, sweet, subtletie, subtlety, sotelty, soteltie, snack, or whatever.
There are two categories:
It's a 'Bake-Off' so items should be (at least in part) baked (as opposed to roasted, steamed, stewed, jellied, cold collation, etc).
In an attempt to put more pomp in your circumstance, there will be a contest for the best crafted personal banner. Banners are to be turned in at troll (or before the event with prior coordination), where they will be put on display in the Feast hall. Their Excellencies will judge the quality, craftsmanship, and heraldic style of each entry, with the winner receiving a nice prize at Court.
