We are a local branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA).
We are also an official JCC Student Group.

The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. Our "Known World" consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dressed in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which feature tournaments, royal courts, feasts, dancing, various classes & workshops, and more.”

Meetings are Tuesdays at 6 p.m. - 10 p.m. at the Jackson Community College Cafeteria during the fall and winter months. Meetings are at Ella Sharp Rotunda during the spring and summer months. At these meetings, individuals learn and practice activities done during the middle ages. If it was done back then, someone is probably doing it now.

Martial Activities include armored fighting, fencing, archery, thrown weapons, siege weapons, youth combat, etc. Participants suite up in safe equipment and following instruction and guidelines learn how to appropriately recreate the martial arts of the middle ages. (This is NOT currently done on the JCC campus. During the winter months, Martial practice will be held at an alternative location and time from the weekly meetings).

Arts & Sciences Activities include costuming, spinning, weaving, needlepoint, beadwork, leatherwork, period musical instruments and singing, heralding, dancing, cooking, calligraphy, illumination of middle ages scrolls, etc.

We also enjoy feasting, socializing, theatre, live weapons competitions, service work, and so much more. Ongoing activities not only include weekly meetings to socialize and learn, but there may be other times groups meet to learn and practice different skills. There are local demonstrations throughout the year as well as local and out of state events you can attend. Such events may have a specific focus (dancing, fighting, etc) and may be just for an afternoon, or may be a weekend long camping event.

If you would like to learn more, come to a meeting. If you are interested in a demonstration for your school/other group contact our Chatelaine-
Lady Carmella Angelica Adamo for more information.
