The Scriptorium is an opportunity for everyone to learn and work on the scribal arts of illumination and calligraphy. We will work on generating AoAs and other scrolls as necessary. If people don't have supplies, the Canton and Mistress Ilaria have plenty of materials to share. Eventually, you may like to procure and bring your own brushes and paints.

Please email Mistress Ilaria (hvindenm @ gmail.com) if you have any questions.

Garb Sewing Nights

WMU Costume Shop - 6:30-9:30/10 p.m. on the following dates (mostly Tuesday evenings unless otherwise noted):

July 10 & 17th

(It is possible that because of theatrical shows at the theatre complex, dates may be cancelled or rescheduled. Please check the Yahoo! email list or contact Mistress Zaynab for these updates.)

Location & Directions: WMU’s Costume shop located in the Gilmore Theatre Complex on WMU's campus. See http://www.millerauditorium.com/visitor/index.html# for good directions. The Gilmore Theatre Complex is located just to the right of Miller Auditorium, there is a shared loading dock between the two buildings.

Parking: There is visitor parking in the Miller Auditorium parking structure or you can chance parking in the open lot in front of the building. If you park in the lot you MUST park in the last three rows and only after 6 p.m. There are often evening activities in the building with many students that do not have parking passes so parking services usually leaves those rows alone, but we can't make any promises. If you park in the Miller Auditorium structure, it is metered parking until 8 p.m., the rate is 10 minutes per quarter; if you get there at 6:00 you'll need $3.00.

When You Get There: You will want to come to the loading dock between Miller and the Gilmore Theatre. You want the door on the right side of the loading dock. You will need to call up to the shop at 387-5249 so we can guide you to the shop or if the door is locked. Please email Zaynab/Kate (kathleen.mackenzie @ wmich.edu) if you have any questions.

Other Details: There is lots of space for cutting out projects (over 16ft of cutting tables) and many sewing machines and sergers etc. available for use. Please bring your own patterns, fabrics (washed if they need to be pre-washed), thread and other notions (buttons, elastic, interfacing etc.) Also bring pins if you think you'll need to take something home pinned. If you are making patterns for something other than tunics you will need a roll of brown craft paper, available at most office supply or craft store and 2-3 yds of muslin/ cheap cotton/ old sheets to use to make mock ups of you pattern to make sure the pattern fits. There are also vending machines for snack and drinks.

Please email Zaynab/Kate (kathleen.mackenzie @ wmich.edu) by 5:30 p.m. on the sewing day to let her know if you are coming and about what time to expect you. She prefers to go home if no one is attending.
