In the SCA, we participate in both rapier fighting (also known as fencing) and heavy armored combat (armor, sword, shield, etc.). Both of these activities are full-contact sports. They are not staged, and the winners are not decided before the bouts. There are both single-fighter tournaments and melees, which are group battles, in the SCA.

Before being allowed to fight in any tournament, SCA fencers and fighters must pass a safety authorization to show that they are safe to themselves and to others. You do not need to be authorized to attend practices. These practices are meant to hone your skills and prepare you for authorization!

Unicorn holds rapier/fight practice every Wednesday night during the school year. It’s located in Lower Alexander Dining Hall on the Miami University campus (Oxford, OH) from 7pm-10pm. Everyone is welcome to fight, fence, or just hang out and have a good time!
