This month we are honored to feature his Excellency Freiherr Thomas Der Keuzfahrer. He is not only our Baron but also our Knight Marshal.

FREIHERR THOMAS DER KREUZFAHRER

Thomas was born in the Rhein Valley on 23 May in the year of our Lord 1074. He is the second son, third oldest of 5 children, of a Germanic Merchant named Albrecht. Meinfridus and Judda being his older siblings with Yrmengardis and Goddesmannus being the youngest children. Meinfridus is learning the family trade from Albrecht and Thomas accompanies, but is mainly used as labor and for his sword skills.

In November 1095 Pope Urban II calls for the Great Crusade. Thomas eagerly heeds the call. Mustering with the forces under Duke Godfrey of Buillion, Thomas sets out in service to God. Injured at the battle of Nicea, Thomas’ wounds are tended by an Armenian by the name of Zafirah. Zafirah accompanies Thomas for the rest of the Crusade, as her people are Christians as well and have suffered under the Seljuk Turks. Following the Crusade, the ship ferrying Thomas and Zafirah was blown off course. Lost and looking to return to his Germanic homeland, Thomas makes a new home with Zafirah in a small Barony. Together they are raising their son Rudolph while helping to build a stronger and brighter Barony of the White Waters.
